A review of "Thanatopsis" by Bill Cullen Bryant
The poem, " Thanatopsis, " written by, is a wonderful literary work which usually explores the often controversial queries of death. Within his well written lines Bryant tries to show the relationship between death's eternal queries and the regular cycle of nature and life. After concluding the poem a large number of readers are able to reaffirm their particular faith of an afterlife, while some are remaining aimlessly pondering this unusual possibility.
Through the poem Bryant creates photos which hook up death and sleep. Actually once the audience gets midway through the composition they notice that Bryant uses these phrases almost substituted. In the second stanza this individual writes, " All that follow the globe are but a handful to the tribes that sleep in its bosom. " Rather than referring to death he uses the word " slumber. " These links continue in many places. Additional examples include lines 57 and 66. Equal 57 he writes, " In their last sleep the dead rule there alone, " and in line sixty six, referring to fatality and burial, Bryant creates, " And make their particular bed with thee. " This connection between death and sleeping creates an intriguing metaphor which adds interesting depth and meaning to the poem.
By using this odd metaphor In my opinion Bryant desires to advise his faith in an afterlife. While examining the differences and similarities of death and sleep someone is left with some very thought provoking concerns. The answers to these inquiries reassure some readers when confusing others. Sleep can be described as time of others. It permits preparation for the next day or event, through relating this kind of definition to death Bryant gives new insight about one's fate after earthly existence. Once identifying rest with loss of life Bryant provides death various characteristics of slumber. People generally wake up from sleeping, and Bryant expands this kind of occurrence to death. Loss of life could just be a time of rest that retires the bodies' of earthly beings, and allows the soul to wake. After waking the soul is definitely freed, and enters a fresh plane of existence....
